Full Details of Job Post

Head of Sales Development
Location: London (Oval), United Kingdom
Type: Full-time. Office-based.
Salary: £50,000- £70,000 OTE

UK schools spend well over £2bn per year on covering short-term absences with supply teachers. The current model exclusively relies on agencies that charge a massive commission and are terribly inefficient (everything is paper and phone-call-based). We are consolidating this analogue, fragmented, and inefficient marketplace onto a digital platform. Think Uber for supply teachers. In the process, we're pulling hundreds of millions of waste out of the education system and making a huge positive impact on teachers and schools. Zen allows them to reliably connect and get back to what really matters … our children!

Looking to make a difference?

We are well-funded by high-profile investors and are led by start-up veterans behind two of London's most prominent tech companies.
You’ll be joining Zen in a key position.

As the leader of a team of SDRs, you’ll be responsible for increasing the rate at which we build pipeline. You'll be excited and passionate about constantly training new SDRs to become AEs within 6-12 months and hiring new ambitious SDRs.

You'll be curious and flexible, excited by the opportunity to try new pipeline generation tactics including in-person visits. Pure online and phone-based corporate SDR tactics don't necessarily translate to the Education sector, and you will find this exhilirating and seek new ways for generating pipeline.

What you’ll be doing

      Deliver on ambitious growth targets.
Hire and lead a team of SDRs.
Build, train and retain a high performing team.
Train the team relentlessly to acquire excellent foundational sales skills and progress quickly within the company.
Lead by example – spend some of your time on the phones or out in schools introducing Zen Educate.
Improve sales processes to shorten time-to-value and increase usage.
Collaborate constantly with other teams to ensure your team’s efforts lead to long-term loyal customers.
Contribute to product development that will benefit school users.

What we are looking for

Passion for learning, training and imparting sales knowledge.
Track record of successful development of new business opportunities over the phone and in-person.
Experience upskilling others from scratch to be successful and effective SDRs.
Clear evidence of owning and delivering on targets in a high growth environment.
A “whatever it takes” attitude for getting things done in an ambitious start-up environment.
Love for work that contributes to meaningful change.
No ego – full of ideas but equally open to committing to other people’s ideas.
Excellent people skills for working with both our customers and teams at Zen.

Ideal experience

3+ years experience managing outbound sales teams.
Experience working with teams in different locations across the UK.

Nice to Have

Prior knowledge of or experience in the UK education sector.
Experience selling to schools and Multi Academy Trusts.

What's in it for you?

Central London office with perks like fresh fruit, bike parking, showers and an on-site gym and café
Summer hours with shorter days and an early Friday finish during holidays in August

Diversity and inclusion

We welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds, and different experiences and perspectives — just like the staff who teach through Zen and the children at the schools we work with. We believe in hiring the best people from the widest pool and creating an inclusive atmosphere with a culture where people’s voices are heard and all our team can look forward to coming to work.
We value and respect all differences in all people (seen and unseen). We believe in an environment with equal access to career development opportunities and actively encourage applications from BAME candidates.
