Summary

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage software engineers assigned to the product team
  • Assist all direct reports in setting and prioritizing goals, evaluating progress towards goals, and career development
  • Contribute to setting direction according to the product management process
  • Assist with maintaining the roadmap and budget for the product team
  • Regularly evaluate and provide feedback to team members
  • Ensure that company policies for SDLC lifecycle management are followed
  • Set standards for work quality and ensure that they are followed consistently
  • Lead build vs buy decisions when determining how to meet business requirements
  • Integrate internal and external product design into cohesive stakeholder experiences
  • Select technologies and frameworks
  • Design complex systems to meet functional and nonfunctional product requirements
  • Develop system components, SDKs, libraries, and frameworks to increase efficiency and consistency

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
  • 5+ years of experience leading large design efforts and managing project teams of 4 or more members
  • Previous professional experience collaborating with business stakeholders
  • Experience shipping code in an agile SDLC
  • Previous experience in performance analysis and benchmarking
  • Able to apply continuous integration, development, and automated testing concepts
  • Knowledge of multiple frameworks, paradigms, languages, and trends in the relevant domain
  • Strong interpersonal skills: teamwork, able to learn new skills quickly, excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead and mentor other members of the Software Development team
  • Strong understanding of design patterns
  • Knowledge of asynchronous programming, queuing, caching, logging, security, and persistence
  • Familiarity with user interaction design best practices
  • Practical knowledge of algorithms, big O complexity, and the CAP theorem
  • Able to assess and evaluate 3rd party components and systems

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Software Development Manager is responsible for all aspects of software development for a Welocalize product, including technical design and implementation, management of team members, and the development processes used. Software Development Managers are responsible for ensuring that our systems are stable, functional, and are built according to Welocalize software development policies.

MAIN DUTIES
