ERG is looking for a talented, motivated individual with experience in reducing water pollution from animal agriculture operations to join our growing water practice. You will have the opportunity to work with US EPA, States, and other agencies to address today’s most pressing water quality, resource, and infrastructure challenges.

Job Description:

    • Performing field evaluations of animal agriculture operations to assess the effectiveness of water pollution controls and required reporting
    • Assessing state programs designed to regulate water pollution from animal agriculture operations
    • Providing technical support for regulations or permits relevant to animal agriculture
    • Working to reduce human health and environmental impacts of PFAS and other emerging contaminants in agricultural applications
    • Leading and mentoring junior and mid-level staff
    • Exploring new opportunities related to water quality and agriculture

Qualifications and Skills:

    • A science degree (e.g., environmental science, biology, chemistry, geology, agronomy) or an engineering degree
    • Direct experience with regulation of animal feeding operations, particularly the CAFO program under NPDES
    • 8 or more years of experience implementing or supporting water pollution control programs
    • Experience conducting environmental inspections
    • A willingness to travel in the U.S. to assess water quality control measures at animal agriculture operations or other types of facilities
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
    • The ability to independently plan and perform field evaluations of animal feeding operations
    • Perform critical reviews of nutrient management plans
    • Serve as a technical expert on water regulations and permits related to agriculture
    • Move projects forward from conceptualization to implementation
    • Develop clear, well-documented written products, such as inspection reports, and lead or support multiple concurrent projects
    • Experience working with or supporting a state regulatory program
    • Background in soils/agronomy
    • Understanding of nutrient application rates and related issues
    • Familiarity with CAFO general permits
    • Project and budget management skills
$75,000 - $125,000 a year
ERG offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits, including health and dental insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, educational benefits, FSAs, a generous 401k plan, profit sharing, an EAP, 11-20 paid vacation days per year, 10 paid holidays per year, 56 hours or more of sick leave (based on the state you work in) per year (pro-rated for part-time) and more. The salary range for all positions depends on the years and type of experience.
