Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Grant Revenue Accountant to manage and oversee the financial aspects of grant funding, including revenue recognition, reporting, and compliance with grant agreements. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in non-profit or governmental accounting, with a focus on grant management, revenue recognition, and financial reporting. The Grant Revenue Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring that all grant funds are properly tracked, recorded, and reported in compliance with funder requirements and organizational policies.
Responsibilities:
Grant Revenue Recognition:
Accurately record and recognize grant revenue in accordance with GAAP and donor restrictions.
Ensure proper tracking of restricted and unrestricted grant funds, and release restrictions as requirements are met.
Coordinate with program and development teams to ensure that grant funding is recorded and allocated appropriately.
Grant Management & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all grant agreements and funding guidelines, including timely financial reporting, proper allocation of expenses, and adherence to spending restrictions.
Review grant agreements to understand financial requirements, such as allowable costs and reporting deadlines.
Monitor spending on grant-funded programs to ensure adherence to grant budgets and funder requirements.
Financial Reporting:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for grant-funded programs, providing clear and accurate financial information to internal stakeholders and external funders.
Reconcile grant revenue accounts and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
Assist in the preparation of annual audits, ensuring compliance with grant agreements and government regulations (such as the Single Audit for federal grants).
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Work closely with program managers to develop grant budgets and ensure alignment with program goals and funding requirements.
Provide financial projections and forecasts for grant-funded programs and assist with budget revisions as necessary.
Monitor cash flow and revenue recognition timelines for multi-year grants.
Grant Tracking & Documentation:
Maintain detailed records of all grant agreements, amendments, and financial transactions related to grant funding.
Track and document grant revenue and expenditures, ensuring clear audit trails for all transactions.
Support the preparation of grant reimbursement requests, invoices, and cash drawdowns, ensuring timely submission to funders.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement:
Develop and maintain internal controls related to grant revenue recognition, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and funder requirements.
Identify opportunities to improve financial systems and processes related to grant revenue management.
Collaboration & Communication:
Collaborate with the development and program teams to provide financial insights and support for grant proposals, applications, and reporting.
Serve as the primary point of contact for program and finance teams regarding grant financial matters.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
3+ years of accounting experience, with a focus on grant management, revenue recognition, and financial reporting in a non-profit, governmental, or educational organization.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, especially in relation to revenue recognition for grants and restricted funds.
Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct) and grant management systems.
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to collaborate with non-financial stakeholders.
Familiarity with federal grant regulations, including the Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), is a plus.
