Job Title: Cost Accountant
Job Summary:
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for planning, studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor. The role involves analyzing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Analysis:
Collect and analyze data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor.
Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
Record cost information for use in controlling expenditures.
Analyze audits of costs and prepare reports.
Financial Reporting:
Prepare and report cost accounting data to support financial statements and budgets.
Develop and maintain standard costs of finished goods and production components.
Assist in month-end close of the general ledger.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services.
Inventory Management:
Maintain and review the general ledger and reconcile balance sheets.
Ensure accuracy of inventory counts by implementing and managing an inventory control system.
Monitor inventory transactions and manage inventory costing processes.
Process Improvement:
Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Identify areas for cost reductions and operational improvements.
Implement new cost accounting systems and processes as required.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience: 2-5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
Skills:
Strong understanding of accounting principles and cost accounting concepts.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA or CMA certification.
Experience with ERP systems.
$80,000 - $100,000 a year
